TaxDome Integrations for Tax Planning Software: What Connects to What
Key takeaways
- No planning tool we checked has a Zapier app: Holistiplan, Instead, TaxPlanIQ, FP Alpha and RightCapital all came back empty in the Zapier directory on 2026-09-23.
- TaxDome's help center points to Zapier for integrations, so a tool without a Zapier app can't use that route.
- Karbon has a public REST API and a Zapier app; its marketplace leans toward tax prep (ProConnect, StanfordTax, Filed, Juno, TaxNow).
- Advisor tools connect to CRMs: Holistiplan lists Redtail and Wealthbox; FP Alpha and Wealth.com add Salesforce.
- Intuit Tax Advisor imports directly from Lacerte, ProConnect and ProSeries only.
- The missing integration is the evidence trail: no integration list we read moves a signed plan and its source list into the files your firm keeps.
Your firm runs its client work in TaxDome or Karbon. Your planning tool builds the plan. The question a partner asks before buying is simple: do the two talk? For TaxDome integrations with tax planning software, the short answer as of 2026-09-23 is no direct connection we could find, and no Zapier bridge either, because none of the five planning tools we probed has a public Zapier app. Karbon looks similar for planning, though it lists more tax-prep partners.
This page maps what connects to what: planning tools against tax-prep software, CRMs, planning suites, storage and Zapier, then the practice systems your firm already runs. Every fact comes from the vendor's own page as listed on 2026-09-23. Check the vendor page before you buy, because integration lists change.
The planning-tool matrix
Seven planning tools, six connection types. Read "Not named" as "not among the facts we confirmed on the vendor's own page on 2026-09-23", not as "doesn't exist". Read "Not probed" as "we didn't check the Zapier directory for this one".

Two patterns stand out. Advisor tools connect outward to CRMs and planning suites. The CPA-side tools connect inward, to intake (Instead, TaxPlanIQ) or to one vendor's tax software (Intuit). None of the seven names a practice-management system.
The practice side: TaxDome, Karbon and friends
Now flip the view. These are the systems a CPA or EA firm runs its work in, and what each one lists.

|---|---|---|---|
TaxDome | Help center points to Zapier for integrations | Not stated here | Yes |
Karbon | Marketplace: ProConnect, StanfordTax, Filed, Juno, TaxNow; CCH Axcess listed as not yet available | Yes, REST | Yes |

Here's the gap in one line. Every practice system in this table has a Zapier app. None of the five planning tools we probed does.
Every number in a TracePrep Study traces back to the evidence behind it.
TaxDome integrations: the Zapier route
TaxDome's help center points to Zapier for integrations. That's a workable route when both ends have a Zapier app: a trigger in one system starts an action in the other.
It stops working when one end has no app. As of 2026-09-23, a firm can't build a no-code zap that fires when a Holistiplan, Instead, TaxPlanIQ, FP Alpha or RightCapital plan is finished, because those tools don't publish a Zapier app. The plan leaves the planning tool as a PDF or report, and a person uploads it to the client's folder in TaxDome.
That manual step is the honest state of the stack today. What matters is what gets uploaded with the plan, which we cover below.
Karbon integrations: API, Zapier and a tax-prep marketplace
Karbon gives you more to work with. It has a public REST API and a Zapier app, and its marketplace lists tax-prep partners: ProConnect, StanfordTax, Filed, Juno and TaxNow, with CCH Axcess listed as not yet available (Karbon integrations page, 2026-09-23).
For tax planning, the picture is the same as TaxDome. With no Zapier app on the planning side, connecting a finished plan to a Karbon work item means custom work against Karbon's API, plus the planning tool's API where one exists. Holistiplan's API is approval-gated. For a small firm, attaching the plan to the work item by hand is the realistic route.
Ignition sits next to both. It lists native links to ProConnect Tax, UltraTax CS, Practice CS, Onvio, CCH Axcess and Karbon, and reaches Canopy and TaxDome via Zapier. None of those links is to a planning tool.
Holistiplan integrations: the advisor stack
Holistiplan integrations point at the advisor's world: Redtail and Wealthbox for CRM, PreciseFP for client data, and an API that uses OAuth2 and requires approval (Holistiplan integrations page and API help, 2026-09-23). Wealthbox lists Holistiplan as an integration from its side too.
FP Alpha and Wealth.com follow the same shape, with Salesforce added and connections into planning suites like eMoney and Orion. RightCapital's integrations page lists no third-party tax planner at all.
So when an advisor sends a plan to your firm, it usually travels from a CRM-connected tool to a practice system it doesn't know about. The advisor-to-CPA handoff covers what the advisor should send and what your firm returns. How an advisor picks a planning tool in the first place is its own question.
The missing integration: the evidence trail
Integration lists answer one question: where does the data go? They don't answer the one your Reviewer asks: where does the proof go?
A plan is a set of recommendations. Behind each one sits a figure with a source. A Reviewer signed off on the conclusion. None of the integration lists we read on 2026-09-23 names that as an outcome: the signed plan plus its source list, landing where your firm keeps its files. The CRM gets a note. The practice system gets a PDF, if someone uploads it. The trail from recommendation back to source stays inside the planning tool.
That matters when a client leaves, a subscription ends, or an examiner asks how a number was built. The tax planning software evaluation criteria treat evidence trail as its own test, separate from integrations. The plan deliverable guide covers what the signed plan should contain.
Integration questions to ask a vendor (copy-ready)
Copy these into your evaluation notes. Take every answer from the vendor's own page or in writing.
Question | Why it matters | Good answer |
|---|---|---|
Does it connect to our practice system (TaxDome, Karbon, other) directly or via Zapier? | Decides whether the plan moves by itself or by hand | Named on the vendor's integrations page, or a public Zapier app |
Does it connect to our tax-prep software? | Decides whether the return data comes in without rekeying | Named import, with the prep software listed |
What leaves the tool when a plan is final? | A PDF alone carries no trail | The plan plus the source documents or source list behind each figure |
Where does that output land? | Your firm, not the vendor, owns the file | Your firm's storage or practice system |
Is the Reviewer's sign-off recorded with the plan? | The sign-off is the control point | Reviewer name and date travel with the plan |
What happens to our plans if we cancel? | Retention is your firm's duty | Export of plans and sources before and after cancellation |
The S-corp tax planning memo already has a place for the sources and the sign-off, and the workpaper documentation guide shows the same habit applied to salary.
Conclusion
The integration map for tax planning is lopsided. Practice systems like TaxDome and Karbon sit on Zapier and, for Karbon, a public API. Planning tools connect to advisor CRMs or to one vendor's tax software, and none of the five we probed has a Zapier app. The plan reaches your practice system as a file.
So ask what travels with the plan, along with whether it connects. A signed plan with its source list, stored where your firm keeps its files, is the integration no vendor list names yet.
